Men's tennis team completes thrilling rally, tops Asbury 4-3

MIDWAY, Ky. - With their team on the precipice of defeat, Midway's Aleksey Granitsa and Owen McCarter gutted out critical wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, allowing the Eagles to pull out a 4-3 men's tennis thriller against in-state foe Asbury Wednesday afternoon.

Having just lost a three-set tie-breaker at No. 4 singles to fall behind 3-2 in the match, Granitsa shifted momentum back the Eagles' way. After winning the first set 7-6 then losing the second 5-7, he got the better of Alejandro Caceres 10-6 in the third to pull things even.

McCarter then clinched the win in straight sets against Ignacio Murillo. He overcame a 4-2 deficit to win the first set 7-5, then pulled out a 6-4 win in the second, his win bringing an end to Asbury's nine-match win streak.

German Collado and Aditya Roy Chowdhury got wins at No. 2 and 3 singles as well. Collado defeated Franco Patino 6-3, 6-1, with Chowdhury defeating Ben Moore 6-4, 5-7, 10-4.

Roy and Izan Casado got a win at No. 1 doubles as well, beating Patino and Ignacio Ardiles 6-4.

The win give Midway a nice boost as it looks to improve its River States Conference record to 2-0 on Friday in a 3:30 p.m. home matchup against Indiana East.
