Eagles drop just eight games in men's tennis sweep of MVNU

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Midway dropped more than one game in just one set on its way to a dominant 7-0 road win against Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) in a non-conference men's tennis match Saturday.

The Eagles opened the day with a near perfect run through doubles play. Owen McCarter and Aleksey Granitsa won 6-0 at the No. 2 spot, with the No. 1 team of German Collado and Izan Casado and the No. 3 team of Malon Haverkamp and Manuel Mirabel both winning 6-1.

Casado and Julius Lueckoff both won 6-0, 6-0 in their singles matches. Casado beat Ben Kindberg at No. 2, Lueckoff Lucas Gray at No. 6.

Elsewhere on the singles side, McCarter (6-1, 6-0 over Matt Easter at No. 3) and Granitsa (6-0, 6-1 against Noah Hill) both only dropped one game, while Collado (6-1 ,6-1 over Andrew Hare) and Mirabel (6-2, 6-0 against Austin Faucett) each lost just two for the Eagles, who have won five of their last six to improve to 8-7 on the season.

The Eagles host Georgetown in a non-conference match at 1 p.m. Monday, then close out the regular season with a 1 p.m. road contest against River States foe Shawnee State (Ohio) on Tuesday, also at 1 p.m.
