Men's swimming opens year with win at UPike

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Behind wins in seven events, the Midway men's swim team opened the 2024-25 season with a 104-80 victory at Pikeville Saturday afternoon.

Individually, Jalen Wright and Brad Blanchard both earned a pair of wins

Wright came out on top in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. He swam a 1:06.78 in the 100 and a 2:29.92 in the 200.

Blanchard took first with a 2:05.38 in the 200 freestyle and a 58.57 in the 100 butterfly.

Other winners for Midway were Jacob Williams, who swam a 56.42 in the 100 free, and Daniel Maia, who won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.64.

Blanchard, Williams and Maia were also part of a relay win, as they teamed with Luke Logan to win the 200 medley in 1:48.12.

Saturday marked the second year in a row the Eagles beat the Bears in a season-opening dual, also defeating them 125-42 to begin last season.

Midway will be home next weekend, hosting Indiana Wesleyan and Lindsey Wilson at Falling Springs in Versailles at 1 p.m.
