Men's tennis stays perfect with win over Cedarville

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Though it was moved to another location, the Midway men's tennis team still made great use of its home opener, securing three, three-set singles wins en route to a a 5-1 victory over NCAA Division-II Cedarville (Ohio) Friday.

The match was originally scheduled to be played in Midway on Saturday, but was moved up and day and relocated to Georgetown College to better accommodate the Yellow Jackets, who also played an afternoon match against Georgetown.

The Eagles gained momentum early by winning the doubles point. Axel Sperling and Izan Casado won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, with Owen McCarter and Daniele Trentin winning 6-4 at No. 3.

Trentin and Sperling also contributed to the win in singles, each coming out on top in thrilling three-set matches. Trentin defeated Nathan Brumbaugh 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 at No. 2 with Sperling topping Penn Morrison 6-3, 6-7, 11-9 at No. 3.

German Collado went the distance with a win as well at No. 4 with a 6-2, 3-6, 10-3 victory against Roberto Esquivel.

Daniel Pinzon looked like he'd get a stiff challenge at No. 1 singles as well after winning the opening set 7-5 against Nathan Hollis. Things were far easier in the second, though, with Pinzon winning 6-0.

Midway is now 2-0 in the spring and 3-0 on the season as a whole. The Eagles are next slated to take Tennessee Southern in a neutral site matchup at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
