Eagles Shutout Grenadiers 7-0

VERSAILLES, Ky. –  On Saturday afternoon, the Midway women's tennis team hosted IU Southeast (Ind.) in its final home River States Conference match of the 2023 campaign. The Eagles dropped just one set the entire afternoon as they cruised to a 7-0 victory over the visiting Grenadiers.

With the win, the Eagles improved their record to 7-10 overall and 3-1 in RSC action while IU Southeast falls to 2-11 overall and 1-4 in the RSC.0

In doubles play, the tandem of Agustina Olivero (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Mara Guillen (Madrid, Spain) picked up a 6-2 win at the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 slot, Isabella McKinney (Paducah, Ky.) and Ana Larreal (Maracay, Venezuela) also picked up a 6-2 win to earn the doubles point for the Eagles.

At No. 1 singles, Olivero earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 1 position while Guillen won by the same score at the No. 2 slot. McKinney clinched the match for the Blue and Gold with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 and Grace Froedge (Louisville, Ky.) earned a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 win at the No. 4 position. The Eagles then picked up victories by default at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to finish off the sweep.

Midway women's tennis will play its final RSC regular season match on Sunday, April 16 when it takes on IU East (Ind.). First serve against the Red Wolves is slated for 12 p.m. E.T. in Richmond, Ind.
