Brown hits outdoor 'A' standard, two other field records fall at Centre
DANVILLE, Ky. - It was only a matter of time.
A four-time All-American fresh off a runner-up finish at the indoor nationals, Nevaeh Brown secured another trip to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships with a winning height of 3.65 meters in the pole vault at the Centre College Invitational Saturday.
Brown had one of the two wins earned by the Eagles Saturday, as they came in fifth place in the 10-team field with 69 points.
The 3.65-meter height Brown hit is the exact qualifying 'A' standard, as she easily coasted to her second pole vault win of the outdoor season. She also guaranteed herself a spot at the national tournament in Marion, Ind., which will be held May 22-24.
Brown finished fifth at outdoor nationals last season.
Fellow Eagle Emerson VanScoy took second to Brown in pole vault (3.20 meters), and the freshman was just getting started, as she also earned a win in high jump. Her height of 1.55 meters broke a school record of 1.50 she set one week prior at the Pioneer Invitational.
Fellow freshman Trinity Gottler also broke a program record for the third time in as many meets. Her third-place toss of 41.08 in the hammer throw easily topped the previous record of 37.95, which Gottler herself set at the Asbury Invitational.
That wasn't even her best finish, as she also took second in the javelin at 34.09 meters.
On the track side, the Eagles got a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay, with the team of Nadia Meeks, Emilee Cecil Kashlynn Rice and Brown finishing in 52.72 seconds.
Midway's next meet will be the Landon Bond Classic in Berea next Saturday.
