Midway Hunt Seat has strong opening to 2023-24 at Louisville Shows
PROSPECT, Ky. -- Coming off a strong season last year, the Midway hunt seat team opened their season this past weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) and did so with a bang after finishing inside the top two on both days.
Saturday's show saw Heath Gunnison's team earn High Point Team honors, while they followed that up by tying for Reserve High Point Team honors in Sunday's show.
It was a successful weekend for the team and individually, with Midway accumulating eight first-place finishes over the two days.
Three of those first-place finishes came on Saturday when Kayden Gundry (Newburgh, Ind.) took first in intermediate fences, while the duo of Jessica Covey (Canaan, Vt.) and Karissa Atteberry (Shelbyville, Ky.) each took first in limit fences.
The other five first-place finishes came on Sunday courtesy of Sarah Burkitt (Lebanon, Tenn.) in limit fences and Halley Moak (Estes Park, Colo.) in intermediate flat, while the trio of Riley Whelan (Owensboro, Ky.), Cassandra Doucette (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), and Sophia Quattrocchi (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) took first in limit flat.
The Eagles also had three riders qualify for the Regional Championship Show, including Covey in limit fences, Atteberry in limit flat, and Annabelle Ledlow (Schoolcraft, Mich.) in novice flat.
Midway is set to return to action on Oct. 28-29 when they host the Midway University Shows.
