Men's basketball team falls on senior day

MIDWAY, Ky. -  Midway seemed primed for a blowout senior day win, only for Indiana East to stifle the Eagles on both ends of the court, turning a 17-point deficit into a 17-point, 84-67 win Saturday.

Prior to tip, seniors Tobias Thompson, Donovan Morris, Jared Courtney, Tyler Robinson-Lofton and Donnie Miller were honored. Miller also received recognition after recently breaking Midway's all-time scoring record.

The Eagles, who scored 106 points in their first meeting with the Red Wolves, seemed poised for similar success, jumping out to a 31-14 lead with 7:42 to play in the first half, following a Tim Fuller layup.

The lead would get cut to 39-31 at the half, but Midway quickly pushed it back to double-digits thanks to Jalen Cincore, who scored off a Will VanHook lob, then made a steal and assisted on a fast break Nick Keeton layup on the opening two possessions of the second half.

Cincore concluded his excellent regular season with 21 points and six rebounds.

That would prove to be the easiest Midway have it the rest of the way. Shooting better than 50 percent to that point (16-of-31), the Eagles would go just 10-of-32 the rest of the way.

The Red Wolves countered by shooting 64 percent in the final 20 minutes, and answered Keeton's layup with an 11-0 run to get within 43-42.

Midway kept the lead until the 12:45 mark when an Antuane Allen layup put IUE ahead 51-50. The Red Wolves wouldn't trail again, out-scoring the Eagles 70-36 over the final 27:42.

Keeton (14) and Isaiah Ramey (10) were also in double figures. VanHook led all players with five assists while Thompson had a team-high seven rebounds.

Midway concludes the regular season 8-16 with a 6-12 mark in River States Conference play. The Eagles now await the announcement of who they will face in the opening round of the RSC Tournament.

Said announcement is expected this weekend. This story will be updated when it is.
