Wales wins first River States POTW award of men's basketball season
MIDWAY, Ky. - Amari Wales' record-setting debut earned him River States Conference Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.
Wales was both unstoppable and efficient in a 101-98, double-overtime win over Cincinnati Clermont on Saturday, scoring 35 points on 12-of-15 shooting from the floor. He also finished second on the team with six rebounds.
The 35 points are tied for the fourth most ever scored by an Eagle in a single game and the most ever scored by a player in his first game with the program.
Wales and the Eagles will look to get to 2-0 on Saturday, when they travel to Fisk (Tenn.) for a 5 p.m. matchup.
