Eagles earn split in tri-meet with Pikeville and Shawnee State
VERSAILLES, Ky. -- One week after opening their season with an easy win, the Midway men's swimming team returned to the pool on Saturday when they hosted Pikeville (Ky.) and Shawnee State (Ohio) at the Falling Springs Aquatic Center.
Saturday's home meet saw the Eagles pick up a 121-63 victory over Pikeville before suffering a 140-78 defeat to Shawnee State.
Individually, Brad Blanchard (Lafayette, Ind.), Jalen Wright (Dacula, Ga.), and Daniel Maia (Linas, Brazil) each picked up wins to lead the way. Blanchard won the 200 fly (2:12.49) and Wright won the 100 free (52.33), while Maia won the 400 IM (5:04.46).
The trio also posted a pair of third-place finishes and a fourth-place mark. Blanchard finished third in the 500 free, and Wright and Maia finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Jack Logan (Elizabethtown, Ky.) posted a pair of runner-up finishes in both the 1000 free and the 200 back, while Luca Falcao (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Jacob Williams (Saint Lucie, Fla.) each posted one runner-up finish on Saturday.
Falcao's runner-up mark came in the 100 fly, and Williams' came in the 100-yard breaststroke. Williams, meanwhile, joined Falcao in the 100 fly where he finished in fourth, and Falcao concluded his day in the 200 free, where he finished in third.
Luke Logan (Elizabethtown, Ky.) and Joel Price (Louisville, Ky.) also appeared on Saturday. The duo took fifth and sixth in the 50 free, while Logan took fifth and 500 free, and Price finished in sixth in the 100 free.
Midway's quartet of Maia, Williams, Blanchard, and Wright posted a runner-up finish in the 400-medley relay to open the meet before finishing runner-up in the 200-free relay.
Jeff Armstrong's squad is set to return to action on October 27 when they take on Centre (Ky.) and Campbellsville (Ky.) in Danville.
