Blanchard wins 50 butterfly, men's swimming earns split at Transy
LEXINGTON, Ky. - A win and two runner-up finishes by Brad Blanchard was the highlight for Midway, which split a men's swimming triangle meet against Transylvania and Pikeville on Saturday.
In their last regular season tune-up before the Mid-South Conference Championships, the Eagles earned a 120-44 win over UPike, while losing 202-52 to Transy.
Blanchard and teammate Jalen Wright earned the top two position in the 50-yard butterfly. Blanchard came in first in 25.96 seconds, with Wright just behind in 26.34.
Both were also part of two runner-up relays. They teamed with Jack Logan and Luca Falcao to swim a 1:50.38 in the 200 medley, then swam a 1:37.09 with Logan and Jacob Williams in the 200 freestyle.
Individually, Logan was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.60, with Daniel Maia finishing in the runner-up spot in the 50 breaststroke in 29.13.
Jacob Williams was one spot and 0.12 seconds behind Maia in the 50 breast. Wright (50 backstroke, 29.19) and Falcao (100 breaststroke, 1:07.56) had individual third-place finishes as well.
Midway has a quick turnaround before beginning the postseason. The MSC Championships in Kingsport, Tenn. run from Feb. 1-3.
