Men's and women's tennis teams earn resounding wins at Johnson

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Midway tennis teams had an excellent performance in a fall dual over the weekend, with the men's and women's squads both earning comfortable wins at Johnson (Tenn.).

The Eagle men won 7-0, while the women came out on top 6-1.

MEN

The Eagle men didn't drop a set all day, with Daniel Pinzon (No. 3), German Collado (No. 4) and Manuel Mirabel (No.6) all losing just one game.

Elsewhere in singles, Daniele Trentin won 6-3, 6-2 over Ignacio Gamarra at No. 1, Lakshay Vivek won 6-2, 6-1 over Benja Barrios at No. 2 and Izan Casado beat Pedro Ozelin 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5.

The doubles teams were equally impressive, with the teams of Vivek and Pinzon (6-1) Casado and Axel Sperling (6-2) and Trentin and Owen McCarter (6-2) all winning comfortably.

WOMEN

Singles spots 2-4 were a complete sweep as Nana Hishida, Ana Larreal and Sofia Rueda all won 6-0, 6-0.

Grace Froedge won comfortably as well, beating Haley Thompson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5, while Mara Guillen overcame a 4-6 opening-set loss by rallying for wins of 6-4, 10-3 in the second and third to defeat Paola Testa.

Guillen had an easier go at No. 1 doubles, where she and Agustina Olivero earned a 6-0 win. Larreal and Froedge won their No. 2 match 6-3, with Rueda and Hishida winning 6-1 at No. 3.
