Men's tennis team wins three matches at ITA Regionals
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Two wins by freshman Ferran Clapes were the highlight for Midway, which openend the fall portion of the 2024-25 season at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men's Southeast Regional Championships over the weekend.
Clapes was dominant in his first singles match in college, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win over Aiden Pine of Shawnee State on Thursday. Later that day, he was eliminated in a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Luis Marcos of Cumberlands.
In doubles, Clapes and German Collado won their first match Thursday, defeating Gabor Szabo and Emanuel Casco of Johnson (Tenn.) 6-3. On Friday, against the top overall seed, the duo battled valiantly before dropping a 6-4 decision to Santiago Passoni and Hans Schubert of Lindsey Wilson.
Midway got another singles win by Daniel Pinzon, who defeated Carlos Garcia of Free-Hardeman (Tenn.) 7-6, 6-1 Thursday. Lindsey's Wilson's Schubert, also the No. 1 seed in singles, defeated Pinzon 6-0, 6-0 Friday.
The Eagles will play their first dual of the new year, traveling to Cedarville (Ohio) for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday.
