Kocis concludes indoor season at nationals, nine Eagles named RSC Scholar Athletes
BROOKINGS, S.D. - Fresh off a record-setting, first-place run at the River States Championships, Midway's Jacob Kocis wrapped up Midway's men's indoor track and field season at the NAIA Indoor Championships Thursday.
Competing in the 5,000-meter run, Kocis, a two-time RSC champion in the event, finished the preliminary stage in 16:13.35. The senior distance standout did not qualify for the finals.
This was the third national appearance for Kocis this season, having already qualified for both the cross country championships and the NAIA Marathon, the later of which earned him an All-American finish.
He'll have an opportunity to add to his impressive resume when he and his Eagle teammates return for the outdoor season, which will begin at the Asbury Invitational in Wilmore, Ky. on March 16.
On the women's side, Nevaeh Brown will participate in the pole vault, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday. Brown has earned three total All-American finishes in the event, including an eight-place finish at last year's Indoor Championships.
Kocis, on Friday, also became one of nine Eagles to be named to the River States Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Team. Other selectees are Bowen Workman, Connor Baker, Draven Stewart, Josiah Kocis, Kyler Adams, Luke Roland, Montez Moore and Raush Gill.
