McMichael, Moore capture conference titles on last day of RSC Outdoors

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Midway completed an excellent showing in field event competition, with Isaiah McMichael and Montez Moore both winning individual titles on the final day of the River States Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

After finishing in sixth place at the end of the first day, the Eagles moved up one spot to fifth with a 68.5-point performance Friday, finishing with 92.5 overall. Host Point Park won its third-consecutive team title with 180 points, 27 more than runner-up Rio Grande.

McMichael, a freshman, wasn't intimidated by the big stage, as he secured a high jump championship with a winning height of 1.93 meters. He cleared the winning mark on his first try, eventually securing a tie-breaker over Owen Keeney of West Virginia Tech and Michael Nash of Oakland City, who topped out at 1.93 meters as well.

He was one of three Eagles to score in the event. Brayden Carson was just behind in fourth at 1.90 meters, while Connor Baker tied for seventh at 1.80.

Moore had to wait much longer for his outdoor championship breakthrough, but got it in his senior season, winning the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 14.12. This was a marked improvement over his third-place finish of 13.37 meters at last year's championships.

Baker scored in triple jump as well, placing fifth at 13.02.

The Eagle men left Pittsburgh with three wins in field events, with Austin Ratliff's also securing a victory in pole vault on Thursday.

Two on the track side nearly joined them on the winner's podium, as sprinter Abdul Salaah and distance runner Carson Milner took second in their races by a combined time of 0.28 seconds.

Salaah was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 10.87 seconds, just behind the 10.80 run by Indiana East's Tristan Thomas.

In a race less known for photo finishes, Milner was side-by-side with Shawnee State's Aiden Kammler at the line in the 1,500-meter run, with Kammler getting across the finish line just 0.21 seconds before Milner, who ran a 3:55.56.

Both Salaah and Milner had PRs and narrowly missed the national qualifying 'B' standard, Salaah falling shy by 0.32 seconds, Millner by 1.56.

Salaah and Moore also took part in Midway's best relay finish, teaming with Jastin Proctor and Caleb Wombles for a third-place finish of 43.45 in the 4x100.

A day after finishing second in the 10,000-meter run, Jacob Kocis placed third in the 5,000 in 14:58.53.

In 110 hurdles, Ben Jones took fourth in 15.69 seconds.

Scoring outside the top-five for Midway was the 4x400 relay team of Salaah, Wombles, Zac Cox and Gregory Anderson (sixth, 3:30.81) and Raush Gill (discus, seventh, 40.67).

Kaidhyn Stockdale was named Midway's Champion of Character.
