Men's volleyball swept at Thomas More following thrilling first set
CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - A marathon loss in the opening set was too much for Midway to overcome, as the Eagles were swept 33-31, 25-16, 25-17 by NCAA Division-II opponent Thomas More Thursday night.
The entire first set had just one point where a team led by more than two. That came when a Joseph Boujaoude kill and Saint attack error gave the Eagles a 21-18 lead.
Midway then forced a 24-22 set point on a Jai'Den Chinnis kill before Thomas More rallied to score three straight points to take a 25-24 lead.
This then gave way to a 12-point sequence in which the teams traded scores. The Eagles tied it up for the last time at 31 on a Colton Marsh kill, before the Saints finally scored on consecutive possessions to take the early lead.
Midway outhit Thomas Moore .243 to .114 in the set but was undone by seven service errors. It marked the most points the Eagles have scored in a set loss since a 36-34 defeat against Bluefield (Va.) on March 3, 2022.
The Eagles had more attack errors (16) than kills (14) over the final two sets, dropping their record to 2-19 on the season.
Daniel Cogo finished with 17 assists, Chinnis had eight kills and Boujaoude nine digs to lead Midway.
The Eagles will celebrate senior day on Saturday, when they host Mid-South opponent Brescia at 3 p.m.
