Eagles defeat Barons and Panthers, fall to Saints in home opening duals
MIDWAY, Ky. -- After going 3-2 last week at the Blithe Memorial Duals in Grand Rapids, Mich., the Midway wrestling team looked to continue that momentum on Saturday (Dec. 9) when they hosted the Midway Duals inside Hunter Field House.
It was a solid day for Kenny Mason's squad as they picked up a 31-14 win over Brewton-Parker (Ga.) and a 47-9 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan before closing the day with a 33-21 defeat to Thomas More (Ky.).

Patrick Jones gave his team an early 5-0 lead following a tech fall at 125, but the Eagles quickly answered and took the lead for good. Tyrique Simms picked up a second period pin at 133 to give his squad a 6-5 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Nolan Jones (141) and Kaleb Clark (149) followed with back-to-back major decisions before Brent Hudgins (157) gave his squad a 20-5 lead at the midway point following a first period pin.
After seeing Brewton-Parker cut Midway's lead to 20-11, the duo of Michael Colligan (184) and David Emfinger (197) helped put the match away. Colligan pinned Charlie Henkel in the final moments, while Emfinger recorded a dominant 16-1 tech fall over Thomas Crawford.

Jabril Williams, meanwhile, notched a convincing 18-3 tech fall victory over Jeremiah Williams at 165.
Thomas More 33, Midway 21
Tyrique Simms picked up his third victory of the day with a forfeit win at 133 to knot the match at six apiece. Thomas More, however, responded by winning the next three weight classes to grab a comfortable 21-6 lead heading into the final five weight classes.
Jabril Williams put a stop to the Saints' rally with a 10-3 decision victory at 165 before Daylon Stafford scored a first period pin over Jahmon Spiller at 174 to cut the Thomas More lead to 21-15.
The Saints doubled their lead with a pin at 184, but David Emfinger gave the Eagles a chance and cut the deficit to 27-21 after carding a first period pin over Zach Watson at 197.
Daulton Mayer, a three-time NAIA All-American for the Saints, clinched the 33-21 victory with a pin fall victory at heavyweight.
UP NEXT: The Eagles (5-4) will wrap up their first semester on Saturday (Dec. 16) when they travel to Gatlinburg, Tenn. for the Smoky Mountain Duals.
