Men's team puts three in top-20 at stacked IWU XC Invitational
MARION, Ind. - Competing against some of the best competition NAIA has to offer, the Midway men's cross country team put forth a strong showing in its season opener Friday.
Jacob Kocis, Josiah Kocis and Carson Milner all placed inside the top-20 to lead the Eagles to a 10th-place finish at the Indiana Wesleyan Twilight Invitational on Friday. Midway recorded 283 points as a team.
One of five ranked teams in the field, No. 8 Taylor (Ind.) took first with 62 points, 17 better than No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan. It was a great night all around for the River States Conference with Rio Grande and Indiana East taking third and fourth with 95 and 170 points respectively.
Jacob Kocis finished 12th in the 278-man field, running a 25:26.30. His brother Josiah was three spots back in 15th, running a 25:32.80.
Fresh off a record-setting spring in track and field, Milner began his sophomore campaign with an 18th-place run of 25:39.40.
Joshua Kocis (161st, 28:10.40) and Connor Byrd (185th, 28:36.50) rounded out the scoring for Midway. All told, the Eagles had six runners compete at both the 2023 and 24 IWU Twilight, and all six recorded better times than a season ago.
Next up for the Eagles will be the Midway University Invitational, which they will host at the Falling Springs Cross Country Course in Versailles on Sept. 20.
