ATHENS, Ala. - A back-and-forth battle for the runner-up spot with Spring Hill (Ala.) ended in a draw for the Midway women's golf team.
The Eagles and Badgers finished in a second-place tie at the Firehawk Women's Golf Invitational, a two-day event that concluded on Tuesday with each team recording a final, 67-over-par score of 643.
Loyola (La.), the No. 18 team in the country, took first with a 609.
Maryssa Phillips and Kasey Cameron led the way for the Eagles, both cracking the top-10 while finishing just one stroke apart.
Phillips tied for seventh with a final score of 156 (+12). Her opening day, four-over-par score of 76 on Monday was the best round shot by a Midway player in the tournament.
Cameron was right behind with a 157 (+13), tying for ninth place.
Bree Smith made a seven-stroke improvement on Tuesday, her 77 proving to be Midway's best performance of the round. Smith tied for 15th with a final score of 161.
Kelsay Collins and Sophie Lester rounded out the scoring, finishing with a 169 (+25) to tie for 22nd place.
This concludes a highly successful fall that saw the Eagles shatter multiple program records in their opening match of the year, before capturing a fifth-consecutive River States Conference Fall Preview championship.
