Midway Women's Tennis shuts out Cougars

LEXINGTON, Ky. – On Friday afternoon, the Midway women's tennis team was in search of its third win of the season when it tangled with Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio). The Eagles earned a 6-0 victory over the visiting Cougars behind solid play in both doubles and singles.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-7 for the year, while Mount Vernon Nazarene falls to 3-11.

In doubles play, the duo of Agustina Olivero (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Mara Guillen (Madrid, Spain) earned a 6-1 win at the No. 1 position. Midway then clinched the doubles point when the pairing of Ana Larreal (Maracay, Venezuela) and Isabella McKinney (Paducah, Ky.) claimed a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 slot.

In singles action, Olivero completed an undefeated day with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 1 position while Larreal needed three sets to win 2-6, 7-5, 10-3 in the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 singles, McKinney soared to a 6-0, 6-0 victory and Jasmin McClenahan (Weslaco, Texas) won in straight sets 7-6 (1), 6-1. Closing out the day, Caitlin Wright (Flora, Ind.) earned a hard-fought 7-6 (5), 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.

Midway women's tennis returns to River States Conference play on Saturday, March 25, when it hosts Carlow (Pa.). First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Ky.
