Agustina Olivero repeats as RSC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
MIDWAY, Ky. -- It was announced on Monday, March 27, that for the second consecutive week, Agustina Olivero had been named the River States Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performance on the court the week of March 20-26.
The weekly honor is the second of the season for the freshman and the second of her career. Last week, Olivero became the first Midway women's tennis player to earn this season's weekly honor.
A native of Montevideo, Uruguay, Olivero brings home the honor after posting yet another undefeated week. This time, she posted a 3-0 mark at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to help lead her team to a 2-1 mark in their three outings.
In Midway's narrow 5-2 loss to No. 21 Campbellsville (Ky.), Olivero teamed with Mara Guillen (Madrid, Spain) and recorded a 6-3 win defeating Oriana Espinoza and Clara Asprella. Olivero then handed Ariadna Perez a 6-2, 7-5 defeat at No. 1 singles.
Then, in the 6-0 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio), Olivero again teamed with Guillen and won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles over Emily Allison and Audrey Cochran. In singles action, she defeated Cochran in dominating fashion, winning 6-2, 6-0.
In her final two matches of the week, Olivero failed to drop a game in Midway's 7-0 sweep of Carlow (Pa.). She and Caitlin Wright (Flora, Ind.) won 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while she completed her perfect week with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles.
Following her results last week, Olivero improved her overall record to 16-6. The freshman has gone 8-3 in each of her 11 singles, and doubles matches.
Olivero and the remainder of the Midway women's tennis team are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday (March 28) when they travel to Pikeville (Ky.) for a non-conference matchup.
