Eagles close out regular season with 5-2 victory over Red Wolves

RICHMOND, Ind. –  On Sunday afternoon, the Midway women's tennis team faced off with IU East (Ind.) in a match that would determine who earns the No. 2 seed in the River States Conference Championship. After claiming two of three doubles matches, the Eagles claimed four of six singles matches to earn a 5-2 victory over the Red Wolves.

With the win, the Eagles improved their record to 7-10 overall and 4-1 in RSC action while IU East falls to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the RSC.

In doubles play, the tandem of Isabella McKinney (Paducah, Ky.) and Ana Larreal (Maracay, Venezuela) earned a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position. At No. 3, the pairing of Grace Froedge (Louisville, Ky.) and Jasmine McClenahan (Weslaco, Texas) clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win.

At No. 1 singles, Agustina Olivero (Montevideo, Uruguay) picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win while Mara Guillen (Madrid, Spain) earned a win by injury retirement with the score at 6-4, 5-5. In the No. 4 position, McKinney cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph and McClenahan earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 5 slot.

Midway women's tennis is scheduled to play its first-round match in the RSC Championship on Friday, April 28, in Evansville, Ind. with the time and opponent to be determined.
