Women's tennis tops Shawnee, finishes RSC play 4-1

PORTSMITH, Ohio - With the second seed at the River States Tournament already locked up, the Midway women's tennis team ended the regular season on a high note with a 6-1 road win at Shawnee State (Ohio) Tuesday night.

The Eagles' lone loss of the afternoon came via injury forfeit. Agustina Olivero (6-0, 6-4 at No. 1), Mara Guillen (6-1, 6-4 at No. 2), Paula Rueda (6-0, 6-0 at No. 4) and Angelia Herrera (6-2, 6-4 at No. 6) all won their singles matches in straight sets.

In the only match to go to a third set, Nana Hishida overcame a 6-3 loss to Lexy Urban in the opener by winning the final two 6-1, 6-4.

Hishida was part of the tightest doubles match of the day as well, as she and Isabella McKinney defeated Lexy and Lacey Urban 7-5.

Elsewhere in doubles, Guillen and Olivero cruised to a 6-0 win against Antonia Ilea and McKenzie Harman at No. 1, while Herrera and Jasmine McClenahan won 6-4 over Brooklyn Foose and Vanessa Akuaku at No. 3.

As the No. 2 seed, the Eagles will get a first-round bye in the River State Championships, which will be held in Evansville, Ind. on April 26-27.
