Bio

Adam Malik begins his fourth season as head coach of the Midway University men’s and women’s tennis teams in 2024-25.

Both programs have reached new levels of success in each of the last two seasons, with both the men and women earning the runner-up spot in the River States Conference in the springs of 2023 and 2024. He's overseen the development of women's standout Agustina Olivero, who in two years has been selected to the All-River States Conference First Team in both 2023 and 2024. She was named RSC Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year in 2023 before being named a Second-Team All-American in 2024, the first All-American in the history of the Eagle tennis program.

In his first three seasons, Malik has also coached Mara Guillen (2023 and 24), Julian Lopez (2023) and Axel Sperling (2024) to First-Team All-RSC honors. The two teams have also combined to have 31 RSC Scholar-Athletes and 22 Daktronic NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

A native of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Malik is best known for his work with the Malaysian National Team as well as his playing days at the University of Kentucky.

For two years spanning from January 2000 until December 2002, Malik served as head coach of the Malaysian National Team. He also served as a Tournament Director for the Association of Tennis Professionals Challenger Tour from January 2004 to November 2008.

Prior to joining the coaching ranks with the Malaysian National Team, Malik enjoyed a stellar playing career both collegiately and professionally. He was an All-American at the University of Kentucky and played on the Malaysian National Team, while he played on the ATP/USTA tour for eight years.

During his playing time on the Malaysian National Team (Jan. 1981-Oct. 1997), he appeared as a Davis Cup Team Member for 15 years (1981-1996); played in the Southeast Asian Games (1985 Bangkok, 1989 Kuala Lumpur, 1993 Manila); and appeared in the Asian Games (1986 Seoul, 1994 Hiroshima).

During the 1994 Asian Games, Malik helped lead Malaysia to a Team Bronze Medal in the event.

At the collegiate level, Malik starred at Kentucky earning All-American honors during his 1989 season. He also earned All-Southeastern Conference First Team honors for his efforts.

Malik posted a 32-17 mark in his singles matches in 1989 and claimed the SEC Indoor Championship, while he carded an 18-6 record in his doubles matches teaming with Richard Benson to become just the second All-American doubles contingent in UK’s history.

Following his stellar season as a Wildcat, Malik joined the ATP and USTA Tours playing professionally from May 1989 until November 1997. He won singles and doubles events on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) professional circuit and won doubles events on the ATP Tour Challenger circuit.

Malik completed his degree at the University of Kentucky earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business.
