Brown hits 'A' standard again at Steemer Showcase
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - A week after there was some dispute about whether she'd hit the national qualifying 'A' standard, Midway pole vaulter Nevaeh Brown left the second indoor track and field tournament of the season with no doubts.
Brown hit the NAIA 'A' standard for the second time in as many tries on her way to a second-place height of 3.65 meters at the Wittenberg Steemer Showcase on Saturday.
The Eagles finished 11th at the 20-team tournament with a final score of 19 points.
Brown hit the exact 'A' standard of 3.57 meters when she won at the Centre College Indoor Showcase last Saturday. Her height was originally recorded at 3.53 before being adjusted on appeal the following day.
The three-time All-American was even better on Saturday, coming in behind only the 3.97 finish of Cedarville's (Ohio) Haleigh Eckert.
A week after running a program-record 9.16 second time in the event, Taniyah Hines had another good showing in the 60-meter hurdles, placing fifth in 9.43 seconds. She was joined in the top-five by Trinity Gottler, who had a fifth-place finish of 11.74 meters in the shot put.
The Eagles also had a pair of scorers in the 500-meter dash. Jasmine Clouse was seventh in 1:34.91, with Abby Baldridge taking eighth in 1:36.02.
Midway will be back in Ohio next Friday when it competes in the Cedarville Collegiate Invite.
