Women's track breaks two new records at Cedarville Invite
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Standout veterans and newcomers continued to lead the way for the Midway women's track and field team, which ended up in a sixth-place tie at the Cedarville Collegiate Indoor Invite on Friday.
The Eagles tied Shawnee State (Ohio) and Wilmington (Ohio) for the sixth spot with 24 points.
Top individual finishers for the Eagles came from freshmen Trinity Gottler and Taniyah Hines, who placed second in their respective events.
A week after setting the program record of 11.74 meters in the shot put, Gottler broke that record with a top throw of 11.87 Friday.
Hines, who set the 60-meter hurdle record in her first college event two weeks ago, had another strong showing in the event with a run of 9.44 seconds.
Two weeks after hitting the exact NAIA National Qualifying 'A' standard of 3.57 meters, three-time All-American pole vaulter Nevaeh Brown exceeded it with a season-best height of 3.70 meters Friday. This was good enough for a third-place finish.
Like Gottler, Trinity Smith was also able to break her own program record, running a 5:29.38 for a seventh-place showing in the one-mile run. This was considerably better than the then-record 5:45.04 she ran at the Centre College Indoor Showcase on Jan. 20.
Midway has just one indoor meet left in the regular season. It will travel Cedarville, Ohio for the Centre Indoor Invite next Saturday.
