Runners-up Hines, Gottler break own indoor records

DANVILLE, Ky. - Midway Freshmen Trinity Gottler and Taniyah Hines continued to re-write the Eagle indoor track and field record book at the Centre College Invitational on Saturday.

Gottler and Hines finished second in the shot put and 60-meter hurdles respectively while simultaneously surpassing program records each had previously set this season, as the Eagle concluded the indoor regular season with ninth-place score of 26 points.

Gottler topped out at 11.79 meters Saturday. She narrowly eclipsed the 11.74-meter throw she had at the Cedarville Invite last weekend.

In arguably the day's most exciting race, Hines came in just .03 seconds behind winner Jaylynne Williams of Kentucky State, crossing the finish line in 9.06 seconds. She was also just .03 seconds shy of hitting the NAIA National Qualifying 'B' standard.

Though she has to wait for another opportunity to reach nationals, Hines will enter the postseason with Midway's top-three 60-meter hurdle finishes, also finishing in 9.16 on Jan. 20 and 9.4 on Feb. 2.

Elsewhere, Stevie McSorley scored in two events Saturday. Her, Abby Baldridge, Abby Cunningham and Trinity Smith were fifth in the 4,000-meter distance relay (13:50.97), with McSorley also placing sixth in the 600 (1:55.42).

The postseason is next up for Midway, with the Eagles taking part in the River States Indoor Conference Championship meet in Logan, Ohio next Friday and Saturday.
