Eagle women open cross country season at IWU Twilight
MARION, Ind. - In a field where five of 23 competing teams were nationally ranked, the Midway women's cross country team placed 17th in its season-opening race at the Indiana Wesleyan Twilight Invitational Friday.
The Eagles finished with a score of 443. Despite the heavy competition, NAIA fourth-ranked Taylor (Ind.) coasted to victory, with the Trojans accounting for four of the top-nine spots. With a score of 29, Taylor was 70 points clear of No. 16 Grace, the invite's runner-up.
In her first collegiate race, freshman Ariah Egleston had Midway's top time, placing 64th in 25:04.41.
Abby Cunningham (85th, 25:28.70) and Stevie McSorley (96th, 25:41.30) also came in the top-100.
Jasmine Clouse ran a 28:12.30 to finish 168th, with Abby Baldridge rounding out the scoring with a 191st-place run of 29:42.50.
Cunningham, McSorley and Baldridge all improved upon their times from the same race a season ago, with Cunningham trimming more than two-and-a-half minutes off her 2023 run of 28:06.80.
The Eagles will have two weeks off before hosting the Midway University Invitational at the Falling Springs Cross Country Course in Versailles on Sept. 20.
